Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced driver needing a qualification we can help you. Datchet Watersports is recognised by the RYA, and our powerboat instructors have a great and diverse experience that will ensure that you gain exactly what you want from your course.
ICC - INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE
Assessment 1/2 day for those experienced in powerboat handling - £299.
Or 1 Day Private Tuition Towards ICC £399.
Even people who have been using powerboats for some time find that they
now need an ICC., which is an international licence in order to hire or
use their own boat abroad. The certificate, which is available from the
RYA on successful completion of either a level 2 course or and ICC assessment
is now becoming a requirement as proof of competence the world over.
The assessment tests practical driving ability and theoretical knowledge to National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 including tidal knowledge, pilotage, and basic meterology. and is usually completed in half a day. However it could take a whole day depending on the individuals experience and theoretical knowledge.
NATIONAL POWERBOAT LEVEL 2
Course duration 2 days, 3 Students £299 per person
(1 day on a private tuition basis if you have some previous experience
£399).
The Level 2 course is a level of competency that is required by the RYA
Instructors as a minimum qualification. It is a basic level of proficiency
in practical and theoretical terms to allow one to operate a powerboat
safely. From this beginning you then add experience.
The RYA level 2 equivalent standard is also required by most European
countries as a minimum for driving powerboats. Those foreign countries
will normally ask for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC

The Level 2 course has a max ratio of 3 students to 1 Instructor and is
run in RIB’s (Rigid Inflatable Boats).
A huge amount of material is covered including the practical driving skills – both high speed
and low speed close quarters boat handling plus some theory.
At the end
of the course you will be able to complete the Level 2 practical boat
handling test.
Most of our courses run during the week as the water is quieter but do
ring us with your prefered dates and we will see what we can do for you.
It is imperative that we get to speak to you so that we can guage an idea
of your previous experience.
SAFETY BOAT COURSE
Course duration 2 days £299 per person (pre-requisite-L2 Powerboat)
This course is designed to introduce the techniques used in powerboats
to escort fleets of racing dinghies, windsurfers, canoes, providing safety
cover at sailing centres or assisting with race management. Session covering
boat-handling techniques will be combined with practical instruction in
recovering and towing capsized dinghies, cats, windsurfers and disabled
powerboats. Shore based sessions will include suitability of craft, safety,
communications systems and rescuing other water users.
